Admissions & Application

The Graduate School of Arts and Sciences invites applications from students whose breadth of academic experience and fitness for the specific field of study suggest the potential for scholarly achievement. Prospective students should fill out the GSAS application online.  The application deadline is December 15. Questions about the application or required materials should be directed to the GSAS Admissions Office at or 617-496-6100. 

Required Application Materials:

  • Online application form

  • Application fee payment

  • Transcripts uploaded to the application

  • Three letters of recommendation

  • Statement of purpose

  • GRE general exam scores -  *Please note that GRE scores will be optional for the 2020 admissions cycle to accommodate for testing disruptions caused by COVID-19.*

  • Demonstration of English proficiency, where required

GSAS may request additional academic documents, as needed.

* GSAS is committed to ensuring that our application fee does not create a financial obstacle for prospective applicants. Application fee waivers are available to those for whom payment of the application fee would be financially challenging. Instructions for requesting a fee waiver will be made available on the GSAS Admissions website in September 2020.
