Virtual Memorial for Jim Sidanius

Location:

See RSVP info in event details.

Dear Academic Friends,

This past Tuesday, June 29, our beloved mentor, colleague, teacher, collaborator, and friend, Jim Sidanius, passed away unexpectedly at his home, with his wife, Miriam, by his side.

Jim’s loss came far sooner than any of us expected, before he could complete the work he had planned and fulfil his dream to retire to LA; the gap he leaves is larger than many of us can yet come to terms with. Yet we feel we have so much to celebrate about who Jim was, his journey, his immense contribution to psychology and social science, and the kindness, generous support, and inspiration he offered so many of us.

We would like to invite you to come together with us to mark Jim’s passing with a virtual memorial and celebration of Jim, his life, and his work.

When: Saturday July 17, 3-5pm EST (12-2pm PST / 8-10pm GMT / 9-11pm CET / 5-7am ACT +1 day / 7-9am NZST + 1 day)

Where: Zoom (link available closer to the date)

Following brief remarks by some of Jim's long-time collaborators, colleagues, and students, there will be an opportunity for attendees to offer their remembrances.

If you would like to attend, please RSVP here.

At this link you can also share memories, reflections, quotes, and photos to help us all remember Jim, and to share with his family. Please feel free to contribute even if you can’t attend, and we will send around a recording of the event and any collection we can make from the contributions.

If there are others who knew Jim, including close friends, collaborators, former students, or anyone else we may inadvertently have left off this list, please feel free to share this with them.

Sending warm wishes,
