 **Professor John Weisz** on his receipt of the 2021 Elizabeth Hurlock Beckman Award, which recognizes educators who have inspired their former students to “*create an organization which has demonstrably conferred a benefit on the community at large*” or “*establish on a lasting basis a concept, procedure, or movement of comparable benefit to the community at large*.” John is receiving this award based on the creation of two initiatives by his students/trainees: the [Shamiri Institute](https://www.shamiri.institute/) (the Kenya research program started in his lab, which he talked about in this year’s Harvest Day) and the [NY State Child & Family Institute](https://www.childfamilyinstitute.com/) (started by a former postdoc in his lab).
