SUMMARY:Dean’s Distinguished Lecture ~ Daniel Gilbert, Ph.D. Harvard
DESCRIPTION:
In celebration of the Division of Continuing Education’s 50th anniversary, we’re excited to launch the inaugural Dean’s Distinguished Lecture — a new annual event that will be part of Convocation week.

To launch the series, we’re thrilled to feature Daniel Gilbert, Ph.D., the renowned psychologist and author of the New York Times bestseller Stumbling on Happiness.

Lecture | The Science of Happiness: What Your Mother Didn’t Tell You
Everyone has a theory about happiness — about what it is and where it can be found. But in the last 20 years, psychologists, economists, and neuroscientists have discovered that many of these theories are wrong: Some of the things we all work so hard to get don’t actually make us happy, and some of the things we forget to work hard for actually do. What are the facts about human happiness, and what are the myths? Professor Gilbert will explain what scientists know about our often misguided quest for happiness.

This event is open to all members of the DCE and greater Harvard communities, and we hope it becomes a signature gathering for years to come.

Register

In-person tickets for this event are SOLD OUT. A standby line for patrons without tickets will be formed approximately 30 minutes before the lecture begins. Should any seats become available at 5:45 p.m. ET, patrons in the standby line will be seated in the order they arrived. Admission from the standby line is not guaranteed.

See More Info

If you can’t attend in Cambridge, you can join the event via live-stream from anywhere in the world.

Register for Live Stream

Speakers

Nancy Coleman, Dean, Harvard Extension School and Continuing Studies

Daniel Gilbert, Edgar Pierce Professor of Psychology, Harvard University

Questions?

If you have any questions regarding this event, please contact us at 50Anniversary@DCE.Harvard.edu.

If you require disability-related accommodations to access this event, please contact Accessibility Services at Accessibility@Extension.Harvard.edu.

For press and media requests, or to view our filming and photography policies, please visit our Media Requests webpage.
